Thread: Finding out if nvidia driver is in use or not

hello!

i'm having tough time installing nvidia drivers! in previous versions, use 'proprietary drivers' thing , install current version of nvidia drivers me.

i'm getting "the driver activated not in use".

i'm using dell vostro 1400 8400m.

i've purged nvidia , nouveau stuff, , reinstalled scratch on terminal, still cant figure out if it's being used or not!

"proprietary driver" still says it's not in use, , i'm getting choppy animations, since card pretty old, maybe it's way it's suposed be.

lspci says:

01:00.0 vga compatible controller: nvidia corporation g86 [geforce 8400m gs] (re
v a1) (prog-if 00 [vga controller])
subsystem: dell device 0227

kernel driver in use: nvidia
kernel modules: nvidia-173, nouveau, nvidiafb

so, should trust lspci, in use?
