Thread: Wine can't find the cd

lately i've been trying out lots of old windows games (on cd's bought legally) have lying around on wine heck of it. 5 or 6 years old , many don't run on windows 7! been hit or miss.

what's worked reliably install game on old windows xp desktop, this:

copy relevant folder in program files (for example: c:/program files/warcraft iii) of windows computer usb stick.
paste in linux directory (anywhere)
configure wine d: drive point @ d: drive, ex: /media/warcraft iii/
find promising .exe file in folder copied windows (like warcraft3.exe) , execute wine.

, works charm games! however, in ubuntu think i've installed (while running linux, put cd drive, open installer, install) , run 1 program in linux successfully. happens this:

cd automatically mounts, , configure wine's d: drive in /media/warcraft iii/
i'll run installer.exe wine
wait game install, seems work fine
next time try start game, says "please insert warcraft iii cd"

programs (like warcraft iii) platinum , gold ratings @ winehq this. when used playonlinux think warcraft iii worked, later tried use playonlinux diablo ii (which played later using first method), , couldn't find cd's installation! seems ridiculous wine can't find cd that's sitting in disk drive.

problem i've ever had running games in linux finding cd this. i'd @ least see more interesting error messages "can't find cd put drive ". what's problem?

_____
i'm running xubuntu 11.04 along windows 7 in hard drive partitions on dell d630 laptop.

it looks you've configured wine access cd drive, guess games use copy-protection methods access cd.

how dual-booting last resort, @ least can play them on native windows installation?
