[Indd CS5.5 v7.5.3] Textframes: Convert To Ellipse depends on Inset Spacing Settings: Bug? Feature?

hello, all!

 

while fiddling convert shape options in indesign cs5.5 (osx 10.6.8), came across phenenomen when doing text frames.
see following screen shots:

 

1. 2 square text frames different inset spacing settings converted 2 different ovals:

 

 

 

2. there method in madness. see overlapping objects , inset spacing settings:

 

 

 

clearly can see depends on inset spacing settings happen. if inset spacing settings on sides of square text frame, converting square oval circle. if not, end oval uses first value of inset spacing rectangle form inset spacing settings of original text frame determine shape.

 

the same applies, if convert triangles or polygons (i have shifted bottom polygon bit right show effect more clearly):

 

 

question is: have here bug or feature?

should send bug report?
or base part of his/her workflow on "feature"?

i falls more towards feature bug. ovals, after all, can have single inset value don't have defined  top, bottom, left , right segments, , behavior you've discovered @ least matches new shape aspect ratio of text block itself.

 

if wanted have unbalanced insets inside oval you'd need similar dave saunders did text wrap around ovals in wrap nudger script. interesting see if can come way calculate smooth, offset, inset oval without using 2 frames.
