okay, i'm pretty proficient @ troubleshooting , "i" can't find viable solution in hours of searching why i'm getting "jftp::login: unable login" error.
my affected extensions admin tools , sp transfer
while posts i've read don't specify, error on save, when try add password in global configuration » server » ftp section.
i can add data every other field in ftp section , saves properly.
permissions wide open, 777, via cpanel file manager.
ftp accessible via filezilla supplied username , password.
ftp works fine on joomla! 3.2.3 install in next folder.
if manually edit configuration.php file, can add appropriate ftp password in correct line, , save file, extensions within joomla! 3.2 installation still give dreaded "jftp::login: unale login" when trying access ftp.
so, ask again, on behalf of newbies , seasoned people alike, has run problem, , if so, how did resolve it?
please don't reply suggestion. i've read , tried dozen useless ones. i'm looking 1 person has solution. thank you.

sorry bringing topic life after such long time, has reason. wrote quartermaster check whether still current problem , since is, here answer:
i experienced same issue after updating fpt password safer one, including various special characters host allowing. unfortunately joomla seems not allow of them or unable process them correctly. after switching password limited on [a..z][a..z][1..9] , special character [-._] working fine again. i'm not sure other special characters possible, while using these 3 special characters working fine.
this trick worked both of us, quartermaster , me, can of other users well.
