Thread: Ubuntu doesn't recognize hard drive
hey built computer parts ordered off newegg.com
decided go ubuntu instead of windows time i'm studying computer programming @ college , heard linux better people wanted program or learn how program.
liked fact free.
i'm having problems. got working (sort of) , running ubuntu 11.04 gnu/linux off live cd. however, ubuntu telling me there no hard disk detected, stopping me installing system.
hard drive this:
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82e16822145520
hitachi deskstar 7k3000 hds723015bla642 (0f12114) 1.5tb 7200 rpm 64mb cache sata 6.0gb/s 3.5" internal hard drive -bare drive
specs of system are:
motherboard:
gigabyte ga-990fxa-ud5 am3+ amd 990fx sata 6gb/s usb 3.0 atx amd motherboard
power supply:
hec orion xpower585 585w atx12v 2.01 power supply
cpu:
amd phenom ii x6 1100t black edition thuban 3.3ghz, 3.7ghz turbo 6 x 512kb l2 cache 6mb l3 cache socket am3 125w six-core desktop processor
memory:
g.skill ripjaws series 16gb (4 x 4gb) 240-pin ddr3 sdram ddr3 1066 (pc3 8500) desktop memory
graphics card:
visiontek radeon 5450 2gb ddr3 memory
-----
conclusion: there 1 of 3 things happening.
1) hard drive works, isn't recognized ubuntu
2) plugged hard drive in wrong
3) hard drive doa (as things ordered off newegg are).
---
please if tell me whether or not particular hard drive supported ubuntu or has had similar problem or solution please inform me.
thanks, cavil.

edit: issue fixed.
solution: had mess integrated peripheral settings in bios. mobo's default setting sata ports including 6.0 gb/s ones ide.
unfortunately hard drive works raid or ahci (i opted latter).
have go under integrated peripherals -> on chip settings ->
, switch 6.0 gb/s ones ide (the default setting) raid or ahci.
guess if wanted use regular ports hard drvies. switch ide setting too.
