Thread: Desktop Environment over Server

hello!

have choice of variety in desktop environment ubuntu. can answer 2 questions me?

1. can download ubuntu (with default unity , gnome environments) , individually download required desktop environment , have choice @ login? if applications menus cluttered applications of both gnome , other environment, say, kde?

2. avoid clutter, can download ubuntu server edition, install , download whichever desktop environment want? mean, nice if (correct me on following if i'm wrong)
a. avoid clutter of applications
b (more importantly) ubuntu server desktop added later same desktop install (in basic innards). or concept stupid? (i'm newbie i'm not ashamed )

person intending use server, aren't they? i'm intending use desktop pc. thanks!

p.s (2) : love know if there other alternative want.

once you've installed desktop, it's pretty same default install

might want minimal .iso, not server, though:

Multilanguage infinite redirect loop error. - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

lately i've been trying out lots of old windows games (on cd's bought legally) have lying around on wine heck of it. 5 or 6 years old , many don't run on windows 7! been hit or miss. what's worked reliably install game on old windows xp desktop, this: copy relevant folder in program files (for example: c:/program files/warcraft iii) of windows computer usb stick. paste in linux directory (anywhere) configure wine d: drive point @ d: drive, ex: /media/warcraft iii/ find promising .exe file in folder copied windows (like warcraft3.exe) , execute wine. , works charm games! however, in ubuntu think i've installed (while running linux, put cd drive, open installer, install) , run 1 program in linux successfully. happens this: cd automatically mounts, , configure wine's d: drive in /media/warcraft iii/ i'll run installer.exe wine wait game install, seems work fine next time try start game, says "please insert warcraft iii cd...
