Can I choose a backup-font for missing characters in a style? Or is there a way to select pink areas
i have layout tons of utf 8 data mysql database.
there 1 problem. designer picked font not contain japanese characters. there inline-japanese in text.
so imported text has many pink areas (characters not present in font).
so search of following options:
- is there way define fall-back font (like webbrowsers do). if view utf in textedit (mac) or in browser, weird characters displayed using osaka. there way let indesign replace pink squares osaka?
- is there way select pink squares, , apply character-style them? way can create characterstyle osaka font
- is there way have indesign parse sort of markup-elements in plain text? tweak mysql output php wrap strange symbols in markup-item [japanese]blabla[/japanese]. if converted characterstyle "japanese" on import, helped lot well.
- the font hack: there way load available characters in designfont osaka , replace characters , make osaka2? or result in mess?
i think automation character style on pink areas best, allows tweak font height , baseline shift match other font.
does know 1 of 4 or maybe fifth way tackle problem?
this quiet day here on forums because of thanksgiving holiday here inthe us, there aren't lot of usresponding. think want possible using grep style part of paragraph style. want apply font character in prescribed unicode range, think.
the problem don't know range has japanese glyphs, , grep not fluent enough rattle off correct expression, though i've done little research , think should [\x{5026}-\x{9d60}]+ (i don't have range correct). may have been covered before if search here, or luck jongware or peter kahrel see (or 1 of our other grep experts) , offer correct expression.
