Thread: Noob ubuntu user has a used laptop with 8 ubuntu start up options!?


hi got used laptop pawn shop ubuntu on it. i'm new supposed have 6 start options outside of normal start , recovery mode? there option "previous linux versions" "memory test(memtest86+)" "memory test(memtest86+, serial console 115200)" , "ubuntu (10.10)(on /dev/sda1)" 3 times. @ first didn't concern me until noticed 150gb showing 98.5 free space when supposedly wiped!! looked around here see , came across topics of "dual booting" , "partitioning". wondering these other options(obviously didn't pick these out of fear) , partitioning hard drive? can fix it? , please speak i'm noob.

wen u update , stuff can add new entries list. top 1 latest , rest prob older versions just. nothing worry about.

view ur partitions, open "ubuntu software center" search "gparted" , install that. run it. open nice gui showing partitions on hard drive... u can see wot state in. if u need, post screen shot of , we'll tell u score. how clean etc if in bad shape
