Akeeba Backup - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

i finishing site located on server in sub-directory (test). have been backing via ftp (transferring "test" folder contains site onto external hard-drive. however, after reading lots of posts realised not way backup. installed akeeba , ran first backup. backup halted following message:

couldnt write archive file; check output directory permissions , make sure have enough disk space available.

i presumed either did not have "permission" archive onto server or there not enough space.

after receiving message yesterday not access site @ got next message:

bandwith exceeeded

contacted host provider has said can see 3 partial duplications of site (i tried backup 3 times) on server has taken room , why have bandwith message. told site enormous! deleted backups via backend hope has removed them server? problem why site big? how find out taking space? gallery have 50/60 products images - using virtuemart display shop , have used images of 60px 60px not have thought big.

any comments or possible routes of enquiry can take appreciated.
