Thread: 4TB raid partition for server
is true? ubuntu has no gpt support native server install?efi guid partition support works on both 32bit , 64bit platforms. must include gpt support in kernel in order use gpt. if don't include gpt support in linux kernel, after rebooting server, file system no longer mountable or gpt table corrupted. default redhat enterprise linux / centos comes gpt kernel support. however, *******if using debian or ubuntu linux,******** need recompile kernel. set config_efi_partition y compile feature.
never compiled kernel. of going mind bender? how doo doo going if haven't done few times? trust me when tell no thrill formatting , reformatting 8tb raid drive or individual disks if screws up. been on ride way long already. need things go smoothly. not play toy server, used in business.
need advise of has complied few kernels, more 10 times plus. start , should i, or should try different linux distro , not have venture project few failures norm.
whatever you're quoting out of date; gpt support has been included in standard ubuntu kernels time now.
btw, parted isn't gpt-capable partitioning tool in linux. based on libparted (parted, gparted, palimpsest disk utility, or others) do, gpt fdisk tools (gdisk or sgdisk). util-linux tools (fdisk, sfdisk, , cfdisk) can't handle gpt. ubuntu installer based on libparted , gpt-capable.
aware if you're booting gpt disk, may need include special partitions -- either bios boot partition bios-based computers or efi system partition (esp) efi- or uefi-based computers. if disk isn't boot disk, don't need these features.
