Thread: 64 bit vs 32 bit Ubuntu

hi,

i'm lightweight home desktop user; don't requires huge system resources.
dual boot win vista ubuntu natty. 32 bit.
next week new machine arrives win 7 pre-installed. it's dell xps 8300--64 bit.
can continue use natty 32 bit version? work on 64 bit system?
or should download & burn 64 bit version of natty , install alongside win 7?

and--if have to use 64 bit version of natty, worth while backing 32 bit home folder before move 64?
32 bit backup (deja dup) restore 64 bit version?
or have spend time customizing new 64 bit natty install "scratch"?

certainly.

the home folder should compatible between bits.

will 32 bit backup (deja dup) restore 64 bit version?
or have spend time customizing new 64 bit natty install "scratch"?
any 'software' need re-downloaded. configuration , files work fine. system backups wont work data backups will. deja-dup no clue, manually .tar files.

64-bit no worse off 32-bit. either fine doesn't care should world moving away 32-bit.
