How do I gradually fade one edge of a jpeg photo to white?

how gradually fade 1 edge of jpeg photo white?

• create new layer , move bottom, fill layer white
• select layer has image on , click icon @ bottom looks circle inside of square. create mask.
• click on new thumbnail created on image layer select it
• look @ bottom of toolbar on left , see if hvae black , white color swatch. if shade of gray, hit d key on keyboard (if color other black or white - ex. blue , yellow: mask thumbnail not selected)
• click on gradient tool in toolbar on left (shortcut key g - if paintcan selected in tool bar hold down shift key when clicking g key)
• in top tool bar on left side gradient, click on down arrow right of gradient
• select black white gradient. (third thumbnail)
• now can drag gradient across image - keep in mind black hides image , white shows image, if white , black reversed want, can click on reverse check box in top tool bar.
• when done, click on image thumbnail on image layer deselect mask thumbnail.

 

i know looks lot of steps, once have done few times, quick process. if have issues, post screen grab of photoshop layers panel open.
