hello! epitome of ignorant when comes sort of thing bear me here..
friend of mine pretty computer savvy , installed ubuntu on computer months ago learn.. didn't care , never used because of music/data on windows partition , don't know how transfer it.. ever since installed i've had grub menu open startup choose 2 versions of ubuntu, windows 7, , sort of recovery mode/memory test option.. ignore , choose windows no problems, until now.. computer has started become slower i'de decided reinstall os. have pretty new windows 7 i3 laptop didnt come disk. i'm supposed able key "0" upon startup , access hidden partition restore computer it's "out-of-box state".. tried noo luck @ all.. looked support windows why reinstall/reset wouldn't work learn seems ubuntu somehow blocking ability access hidden partition.. awhile ignored because dont know how uninstall ubuntu , lazy learn. got fed slow computer tried fallowing guide on youtube (probably not smart) on how uninstall ubuntu.. installed/ran easybcd , deleted partitions, told in guide.. restarted y computer check if keying 0 work , see if ubuntu gone and....

computer vegetable. can't access either os.. allthat happens option go setup utility or boot manager.. , shortly after appears:

error: no such partition.
grub rescue>

terrible me desperately need access computer. do?? i've spent hours on these forums , found people same issue suggested solutions haven't worked me.. have backed need know how reset computer..

please help! quickly! :o

do have windows repaircd? or ubuntu livecd used install ubuntu or other repair cd/tools?

need install windows boot loader mbr. can use windows repair tool. or can install windows boot loader works windows in mbr.

not sure many windows repair cd's or easybcd may have ways fix reinstalling boot loader.

need boot vista/windows 7 installation disk or repair disk. hit enter @ language selection prompt hit "r" repair section. can select automatic boot repair tool, not good. select command prompt (console) , type in following commands:

bootrec.exe /fixmbr #updates mbr master boot record not run if still want grub

ubuntu livecd or many other linux repair cds.
restore basic windows boot loader - universe enabled
open synaptic , settings > repositories , tick box against universe repo in ubuntu software tab. close window , click on reload before installing lilo synaptic or command line.
sudo apt-get install lilo
sudo lilo -m /dev/sda mbr
may show error messages rest of lilo missing, ignore, want mbr bootloader.
