Photoshop CS6 & Dell U2711 Colour Issues

trying set new pc , new monitor. previous monitors "normal", offering limited colour space of srgb. when upgrading hardware, time foolishly thought work out how use dell u2711 has wide colour gamut. i've invested couple of pointless , emotional weeks trying make wide gamut work , instead trying consistently display normal srgb colours, , failing @ simple task. i'm seeing washed out, less warm images in photoshop no matter do.

in past understanding has been though "normal" monitor can't show me full adobergb colours i'm still better off editing in mode rather srgb. many years workflow been use canon dpp set adobe rgb working space generate 16bit tiff images, edit in photoshop within adobergb colour space , when i'm finished save copy srgb jpg web/printing. on previous "normal" monitors photoshop has shown me no visual difference between original adobergb image , final copy srgb. they've appeared identical. furthermore viewing final srgb images on web, across many different monitors, browsers , computers, , prints various printing labs, years have looked reasonably close. i've been happy, confident even.

now i've bought dell wide colour monitor along new version of photoshop cs6 , it's been nightmare. i've had walk away several times calm down. it's taken me close tears. i'm months behind on photo editing , @ desperation point. please can provide wonderful.

here's summary of dell showing me. i've tried both displayport cable , dvi cable result same. pc dell xps 8500. it's windows 8, , operating system colour management set default, srgb far can tell. ("use settings" tickbox off). monitor's "preset" mode on srgb , calibrated dell. i've reduced brightness 20%.

wrong = washed out, desaturated, blue, not enough yellow/red. it's consistent. "corrects" equally right , "wrongs" wrong.

thanks help,

it sounds not familiar color management , calibration.   srgb of course "reasonably" ok across things. intent, or germans have believe.
