Thread: unrecoverable error
i fdisk old laptop , formatted drive in dos. when booted cd unbuntu splash screen came , little circle spinning error msg. irrevocable error , needs exit. need on one. , find min. sys. req. laptop old dell inspiron 1000 512k mem. know wrong on mem. thing. run winxp service pack 3. ideas?
think may depend on release of ubuntu sys reqs are. here's link information though:

512 mb ram should ok ubuntu installation.
when put ubuntu on laptop kinda touch , go (this one's 5 yrs old now). started ubuntu 11.04, have 10.04 lts , lot better.
first thing comes mind disk format. i'm pretty sure ubuntu format disk part of installation process. may best route go - let way. i've heard fat 16 supported have never tried it. when installed on laptop ran install right after wiping disk dban (nothing further). personally, chose default ext4 file system though.
understand, difference in file system choices has whether windows can use or not. again though, never tried it, things i've read.
i'd try wiping disk , install right there. let installation program format , see if there's option choose file system desire. know can, optionally, go in , manually format partitions in 1 of installation steps - think on, 3rd or step. if nothing else should allow choose file system type wish.
hope helps.
