Thread: High memory usage
chaps,
thread may quite vague i'm not sure of details of problem asking about, , not technical (i posted in beginner forum!)
running 11.04 on 3 machines, , 1 of them seems using quite lot of memory. never below 50% (not on first boot-up, no applications running), , feels sluggish use; applications slow open , close, , things moving between tabs in chromium or adobe pdf viewer don't happen instantly.
machine in question running 64-bit 11.04, , screenshot system monitor looks this:
computer running chromium browser, 3 tabs open, , yet showing 1.2gb of memory used.
know ubuntu uses memory differently way windows uses memory, , 2 aren't comparable, other 2 machines have (both of them lower-spec, both of them running 32-bit 11.04) both use less memory. (they use less memory, , lower percentage of memory have, despite having less memory installed ... if made sense.)
cpu usage isn't particularly high, , machine appears run should. it's ... sluggish. think has become more sluggish on last few weeks, , investigating sluggishness led me check memory usage. fwiw, machine has dual-core amd 5600 chip, has started feel slower lower-spec single-core x61s laptop have.
on basis, think there wrong, not sure or go looking. have searched on here , on other sites, without luck. have found program called htop, gives result:
... doesn't mean lot me, other give impression chromium using memory in lot of small bits.
welcomed. please ask if need more details system.
many thanks, in advance.
oli.
chromium seems blamed, kill processes , watch difference
