Installation stuck on Main Configuration - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

downloaded template club free template - quickstart package. unzipped locally, ftp'd files shared hosting webspace. joomla installation in subdirectory - 1 step down site root.

online, first got message needed have php 5.3.10. upgraded.

the joomla installation pre-check page opened. pre-installation check showed register_globals on, , must off. edited php file , turned off. clicked check again button multiple times , continued register_globals on.

eventually jumped joomla main configuration page. fill info in there , click next button , shows blue bar processing animation few seconds, returns same page.

there 3 tabs... configuration | database | overview.
i cannot move past configuration page, either tab or next button.

chrome first browser firefox did same thing.

i have noticed there no configuration.php file (nor downloaded local files). other joomla installations have - required file?

if edited php.ini file turn off register_globals setting did not seem ghange, there 2 question consider:

are sure edited correct php.ini file?

did restart apache?

regarding php settings, session save path needs writable. memory limit 32m looks low, increase 128m, in case.
