Thread: Resize Partition

when first installed ubuntu in 2008 used 32 bit version....

installed 64 bit version take advantage of my
dual-core hardware, kept 32 bit version dual-boot
system...just see if apps supported & worked under
64 bit....they seem work fine...

find running out of space in 64 bit version..
resize, or entirely remove, 32 bit version &
allocate disk space 64 bit os....

installed gparted & started that, warning message
saying 32 bit version flagged "boot"....

if proceed, erase boot partition & lose ability to
use pc???

forgive noob question & long post, hardware guy & not
software guru...

you need use live cd , run gparted want to, first know of 2 systems supplying grub being used @ boot.

need make sure 64bit system has active, current grub, boot 64 bit system , run
code:
sudo grub-install /dev/sda
assuming sda disk ubuntu on it; if not change device name. make sure 64bit system has active grub.

using live cd, can delete 32bit os root partition , extend 64bit partition, or make new partition if 2 not side side, make sure backup hidden config files may useful later on. can totally ignore boot flag warning boot flag not needed linux; needed grub in mbr of first boot device, have dealt with.
