Thread: Getting most of XP SP3

hi all,


have installed on ancient pc:

• cpu celeron 1.8ghz
• ram 768mb ddr
• geforce 6200a (agp)

xubuntu 11.04 , in virtual box xp sp3. that, no drivers, no nothing.. yet!
first, want seek guidence experienced and/or smart people (and forum have plenty)

goal , goal use xp for studies (university; windows programs).
know sure use these programs:

• ms office 2007
• pascal
• mathematica
• delphi

later others..

will not use xp browse net (i thinking disable networking capability)
definetly not use multimedia (listen music or watch movies / serials)

so, want disable, remove think of not use. services, registry tweaks, settings, unnecessary drivers etc etc
name it.

anyway virtual box has nice feature: snapshots. => no worries if goes wrong!

want as fast possibly could! (later kind of stuff on *buntu too, need set xp before studies start in few weeks)

so, how 1 advise proceed?
havent installed drivers, should i? (i don't know if should; example chipset driver, nvidia driver?, other?)

hope provided enough info have , want.

start stripping install media down using nlite , build new install cd.

nlite can remove languages don't need, printer drivers, obscure networking protocols banyan vines, atm, ipx/spx etc , load of other stuff. there plenty of nlite guides on net. got install cd down 200mb.

don't need drivers xp when install in virtualbox, have install guest additions virtualbox menu. not use normal hardware drivers when running in vm, uses vb drivers.
