Layer Mask not working

i using photoshop cs5 trying use layer mask when apply mask paint brush has no effect on layer. made sure using default black , white colors , insured the mask selected on layer panel brush flow @ 100 , still nothing happens

one other place check, make sure layer mask active, channels panel.

 

also, have selection in layer mask, maybe 1 hidden?

 

another question: when went paint layer mask, did colors change automatically, or did have change them, yourself? should automatic, if alpha channel/mask active.

 

if active, , paint brush not painting in, or out, reset brush tool.
