cant open lightroom 4

lightroom 4 froze restarted computer (windows 8) message stating "the lightroom catalog named lightroom 4 catalog cannot opened because application has opened.  quit other copy of lightroom before trying launch.  problem have 1 copy of lightroom , 1 catalog.  do fix this??

go folder catalog file located , delete .lock file has same name catalog.  catalog has .lrdata extension, sure not delete catalog, itself.  lock file there 2 instances of lr can’t both working @ same time.  deleted when shut down lr, if lr ended unexpectedly, can remain.  if there no .lock file report back.
