Thread: mv command deletes file

when i'm trying move file new location file disappears.

code:

ras@ras-vostro-1015:~/desktop$ ls -a .  ..  randomfile.txt ras@ras-vostro-1015:~/desktop$ sudo mv randomfile.txt /documents  ras@ras-vostro-1015:~/desktop$ cd ras@ras-vostro-1015:~$ cd documents/ ras@ras-vostro-1015:~/documents$ ls -a .  .. ras@ras-vostro-1015:~/documents$

the file not in desktop, documents or in trash

by looks of moving /document not ~/documents sudo command might moving /root/documents if files don't need use sudo

tried command , did move /documents not /home/user/documents

file in root filesystem
