Thread: HP DM1z Wifi issues.

so, trying install 11.04 ubuntu on hp dm1z.

now, seems install ubuntu on million machines.. , know expect million wireless driver issues.. , problem/s i'd have it.

tried following these instructions best could.

here steps took wireless dwa-525 pci work(adapted specific card):

1. download correct driver http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php?s=2. (http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php?s=2.) in case rt3062pci/mpci/cb/pcie(rt3060/rt3062/rt3562/rt3592). need to download rt5390pcie.

2. unzip 2010_1217_rt5390_linuxsta_v2.4.0.4_wifibtcombo_dpo .zip downloaded.

3. open folder unzipped , navigate os -> linux. there find file named config.mk. open favourite text editor of choice.

4. change following:

#support antenna diversity
has_antenna_diversity_support=n

to:

code:
#support antenna diversity
has_antenna_diversity_support=y

, save , close.

5. enter following commands compile driver(note may need enter last 2 commands root):

code:
cd 2010_1216_rt5390_linuxsta_v2.4.0.4_wifibtcombo_dpo
make
make install

6. in case driver conflicts rt2800pci driver may need blacklist in order driver compiled work(the thread looked @ on *buntu forums seems confirm this). open command line , enter following command root:

nano /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-rt2800pci.conf

nano command line text editor in case you're wondering what's going on after enter command. type in following:

blacklist rt2800pci

hit crtl+o , enter save. hit crtl+x exit.

7. reboot.

8. after rebooting enter following commands in command line:

modprobe rt5390sta
ifconfig ra0 inet up

, that's it. these instructions worked you. luck.

things note:

1. used newer driver version should be.
2011_0406_rt5390_rt5392_linux_sta_v2.5.0.3_dpo , did not see "has_antenna_diversity" in config.mk file.

2. kernel version (just sake of having here) 2.6.38-11-generic

3. had issue "nano /ect/modeprobe..." part because, when hit ctrl + o didn't want save.

4. skipping last step, when running modprobe rt5930sta , inet commands, wouldn't tell me wrong, wireless drivers still don't work.
